Gloria Prieto
Gloria Prieto is a self-taught artist from Mexico City living in Houston, Texas with over 25 years of experience working with acrylics on canvas. She integrates bright colors, different textures, and geometric figures to give her work a very symmetrical, yet chaotic feel. It is not uncommon for Prieto to blend in materials such as metals, gold leaf, minerals, cloth, and other objects to display more complex and layered paintings.
In 2005, she won the Honorary Diploma for her unique work in the fourth annual “Artistas Hispanos de Houston” exhibit. Her success at that exhibit, as well as Houston’s booming art scene, inspired her to move out of her home workshop, and now paints from a professional studio at the newly established Silos on Sawyer Art Studios. Through rigorous hard work, Gloria Prieto is determined to distinguish herself as one Houston’s most impressive up and coming artists.
