John Whaley Jr. resides and works in Houston. New to the art profession and having no formal art education or training, John’s mural entitled “Beauty Lies Deep Within” received 3rd place at The Mural Project @ CityCentre. John is one of a growing number of artists with raw & undiscovered talent whose fan base support the movement of urban art murals in Houston.Whaley tries to approach a wide scale of subjects in a multi-layered way, and likes to involve the viewer.His paintings directly respond to the surrounding environment and uses everyday experiences as a starting point. He enjoys creating paintings, photos, and mixed media artworks. While he touches on various overlapping themes and strategies, several reoccurring subject matter can be recognized… his works often refer to pop and mass culture.
In addition to the Mural Project @ CityCentre, John participated in group exhibitions around Houston, Tx. In December, John traveled to Miami to take part in a group art exhibition held in one of the growing number of Miami hotels opening their doors to host artwork. These satellite group shows run during the week that the prestigious & exclusive Art Basel Miami is held and brings additional visitors and excitement to the vibrant multi-cultural city. John feels strongly that 2016 will be the year that he makes art his full-time career.
